I was prepared to downgrade this speaker because I wasn't getting great audio with Bluetooth connections. Even using my high-end desktop and multiband equalizer, the sound quality was very thin. It turns out that it was mostly the fault of Bluetooth limitations.

I tried this again with other high-quality sources and found the audio quality to be quite impressive for a speaker of this size. Using lossless files on an SD card presented much more solid frequency response and surprisingly room-filling volume in my media room. Similarly, the RCA coax connections to a high-end surround sound system provided a solid center channel experience.

The cabinet has a unique appearance with the grey fabric, wood grain and exposed wood surfaces. The cabinet is heavy and solid and doesn't cause any resonance.

Here's why it's 4 stars instead of 5 stars. The instructions do not match the actual functions provided by the unit. You are supposed to be able to toggle various inputs including a USB flash stick but the USB-A connection is actually a power output so you can use the speaker to charge other devices. It would never toggle to the "flashing green" USB drive mode. The other inputs all worked as described - Bluetooth, MicroSD, Line (aux) and RCA coax inputs.

This is battery powered but it isn't a portable speaker because of its weight and the exposed elements. I'm not sure if I'll leave it permanently at my desk for my computer or attach it to one of the bedroom TVs that can use better audio.

I have other speakers. Portable ones, smaller ones, different ones. Each has a "purpose". I bought this one to see if it was "loud" as advertised. It is not quite as loud as I would have expected. BUT... It does not distort when it is turned all the way up. That performance I like. The vendor says you can chain two together. I just purchased a second, to see if I can play "two" at once, in two rooms, to get full house coverage when I listen. I will update my review according to the result. It does, occasionally disconnect from my 5G phone. I don't know if it is a signal overlap issue with many devices, or a flaw in the 5.1 Bluetooth firmware. It isn't an issue overall however. The BATTERY LIFE is OUTSTANDING. It plays for HOURS and HOURS and HOURS at high volume. This alone makes it BETTER than others I own. Bottom line - it is a GOOD speaker. I am a happy customer. ;O)

2024-NOV-22 Update.
Second M10 arrived. Took a bit of 'come-on why NOT?' moments to get the two to PAIR. What worked for that - turn OFF the cell ( my music source ), then PAIR the speakers, then turn cell back on. Note also, I did NOT pair the SECOND speaker with my cell. The CELL only knows about speaker #1 of 2.
SOUND -- WOW What a difference! If you are looking for CLEAN and LOUD -- two of these in the same room is the ticket! For party stuff, that is the way to go with the M10. For my needs, I am using one on floor 1 and the other in the basement. "whole house sound" stuff. With this review, I am giving these a 5-star rating!
Added photo of the two speakers working 'in stereo'.
They work VERY WELL. ;O)

A month ago, I received a rugged portable speaker at my doorstep. The package arrived intact and contained the speaker itself, a quick start guide, a charging cable, and a 3.5 mm auxiliary cable.

The speaker is predominantly black with dark gray accents encircling the passive radiators. On top, it features a sizable handle, while the control buttons are positioned just below it. The front houses the speakers, while the sides accommodate the passive radiators. Two rubber feet are on the bottom of the speaker. Despite its compact size, it weighs just under 5 pounds.

I successfully connected the speaker to various devices, including my PC, Android phone, and older iPad. It goes by the name "BoomHero 1" over Bluetooth, which seems fitting considering its bass capabilities. I can easily toggle the bass on or off with the press of a button labeled "BASS." When engaged, the bass delivers an impressive thump, but I tend to disable it when I want to focus on conversations or more balanced audio.

Beyond Bluetooth connectivity, the speaker also features an auxiliary port at the back. This allows me for a wired connection to devices equipped with a standard 3.5 mm audio jack, such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops. The sound output from the auxiliary port delivers a standard stereo experience.

Compared to my old Bose speaker with a display, this new speaker offers comparable sound while excelling in portability, water resistance, and affordability. Unlike my old speaker, I can take this one along to the park, the beach, or simply move to another room effortlessly while my older just keeps collecting dust in the living room. With its IP67 waterproof rating, I no longer worry about it getting wet from rain or accidental spills. However, it's worth noting that the quick start guide advises against submerging it in water. Thus, I refrain from letting it float in pools or other bodies of water. Nevertheless, I accidentally hosed it once, and it continued to play music flawlessly.

Update: I have been continuing to use my speaker as much as possible being "used-acceptable" but looking and acting like it's actually brand new. I purchased another one because i saw a good deal on one and noticed the same issue with the power button "not shutting the speaker off" too .... and then i finally read the directions ..... there is only one way to say this. The user (... aka ME) is an idiot.... I am used to pressing and sort of holding a speaker's button for a second or so to shut it off and that is what i was doing.

FINALLY doing what the instructions say, being a "fast tap" of the power button ..... and the speaker turned off instantly ... doing what i had to on the same device to switch back to the "Used - Acceptable" speaker that I wrote this review about .... and then tried that "fast tap" of the power button when it is on and paired ... that one turned off instantly too. SO ..... my only "issue" now with that first speaker is wondering WHY it was "used-acceptable" (I mean i am BEYOND HAPPY about the way this turned out) ... it looks and acts brands new and came with everything. The one thing that I was attributing to the listed condition .... was MY OWN error and a non-issue.

I mean things can always be improved but .... before i was given this a 4.5 out of 5 to a 5 out of 5 ... NOW ... I think i have to give this a 5 out of 5 and i dont give that rating much ... again "something can always be improved even if its a minor thing" sort of thing so i will give a project a 4.5 out of 5

-------------------------------------------------------
I am not even sure how to open this review as I try to give as many details about the product in pros and cons (without just copying spec details that you can read elsewhere)… I have a feeling this review may be simpler than others I have done but I will still try to say compare products.

The TL/DR is that I have one negative (with a HUGE catch) with this speaker and EVERYTHING else is a Pro. I don’t give out 5 out of 5’s, as something can “always be improved” but … this Tribit XSound Plus 2, is at worst 4.5 out of 5, and may actually get a 5 out of 5 from me.

Pros: Pretty much everything… I really mean it. Sound Quality, Build Quality, Battery Life.. just everything.

We were in need of a portable Bluetooth speaker for our poolside music, and trips to the beach (and other outings). While size and weight were both somewhat important, there was no requirement for it to fit into a cup holder or anything like that.

I have been a live sound audiophile for decades and I have my own high end PA, play in a band, and do DJ'ing for select family and friends as a hobby with my equipment. I mention this just to let you know that I know good sound when I hear it.

Ergonomics: The unit can be easily carried in one hand and it is very light. The unit sits firm when you set it down. The controls are both easy to use and obvious to find.

Sound quality: This thing can fill a private pool area with music EASILY. The bass response indoors seems a bit much when you turn it up a little (seems OK at lower volume inside); but outside, it is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered. Outside, the Charge 5 sounds full, warm, and articulate. You can easily hear the various instruments in the mix. Personally, I wouldn't use a bluetooth speaker indoors .... or if I did, I would opt for one that was made for that specific purpose (higher quality codec, more balanced eq, etc). It is clear that the Charge 5 was made for going outside (IP67 rating, super long battery life, etc). It isn't a bad speaker for indoor listening (especially if you aren't an audiophile as I am and just want something to listen to while you do dishes/laundry/etc, etc). Listening indoors, I was pleased enough (although my PA has nothing to worry about ;). One would certainly hope that a 10K front of house PA would sound better than a $180 bluetooth speaker). With respect to output volume, this little speaker can get quite loud. Unless I was hosting a huge party (where I would use my real PA anyway), this speaker has more than enough output for anyone. To sum up the sound quality, it is very good indeed.

Bluetooth connectivity: Simple and easy to connect to. I had no issues. The speaker appears to have a greater range than my house area! My wife left in her car, and even in her car, it continued to play until she got out of the driveway. Pretty impressive. More than enough range to cover an outdoor area, or an entire floor in your house (maybe even 2 floors ..... but why wouldn't you just carry it upstairs with you?).

Features: Ok, one minor quibble that I have eluded to. The unit doesn't have an adjustable EQ as of the current firmware. I am really hoping that JBL gets on the ball and corrects this. This would be particularly useful for trimming the bass at higher volumes inside where the bass is a bit too much with the standard eq it comes with. Of course, most people will not play it that loud indoors, and some will love the emphasized bass response exactly as it is (perhaps not the audio purist :)). The rest of the features are very good and well thought out.

For $180.00 USD, this speaker is as good as it gets.

TLDR: It's a fantastic little speaker for the price! Perfect if your laptop or phone speaker just isn't cutting it.

Long Version:
I needed something for listening to music or watching youtube videos as I'm cooking or cleaning. My phone and laptop just can barely keep up as I move around cooking or cleaning a few feet away. This speaker is great for filling the house with volume!

While I try not to push speakers and amps much past 50% volume, to avoid overwhelming or over heating them. The volume of the Sony XB13 remains gentle and quiet until you get to 50% volume. Then it scales up rapidly just like you see in the Rting review. At first, I thought it was extremely quiet compared to the JBL Go 3.

It was only after writing my first review, I decided to investigate the Rting's spec sheets. I couldn't understand that the Sony was within 1 DB of peak loudness with the Go 3 when it felt a quarter as loud. After pushing it to pushing it to 70-80% volume, I discovered that the loudness scales up exponentially to it's peak. It filled the entire house with sound at 70%, just as I had hoped for.

This design of exponentially increasing volume is actually brilliant, because you can finely set the volume when you need it to be quiet. Then you can still get it loud and clear when you need it as well! Quite brilliant in my opinion. It really took me a while to appreciate this thing, now I love it!

It's a fantastic little speaker if you can get one on sale for around $40! Almost unbeatable in this price range when you consider the price of buying speakers with an amp.
